While the season didn’t end with a state championship for the Greene County Rams football team, multiple players have received honors for their play.
The Rams battled their way to a 5-5 finish overall with a miracle run into the playoffs that included three straight wins: 10-7 over Southeast Valley, 14-13 over Des Moines Christian and 30-6 over Clarinda in the playoffs. The Rams eventually fell to PCM 6-48.
This year, the Rams wanted to focus on getting back to playing football their way and while near the end of the season the outlook wasn’t ideal, this team dug down deep and won the games they needed to and then some.
Statistically, the team fared well throwing for more than 1000 yards with seven touchdowns and rushing for more than 1400 yards and 16 touchdowns and those numbers are highlighted by the players on the all-district team.
Defensively, the team was filled with players who got after the ball with a total of 11 interceptions, five of them being from sophomore Trevon Keely. The team also had a total of 498 tackles with junior Chris Daugherty accounting for 72.5 of them good for a top spot in Class 2A. Aden Bardole also collected 54 of his own tackles for second on the team.
